Good morning. It’s just before 11 AM and while the S&P is up for the day the intraday record set yesterday has not been reached … but we are only a few points away, so anything can happen. There was a report out this morning that Japan is starting to dispute what has been announced regarding the recently announce tariff negotiations … as the Trump Administration made the claim that the U.S. would receive 90% of profits and the Japanese government feels this is not as agreed. The true result of the agreement … regardless of any announcement … still seems a bit hazy … even as to timing. There was also an announcement coming from the White House that we will now be selling “so much beef” to Australia … as that country lifts some restrictions put in place by concerns over imported “mad cow disease.” An issue here is we presently seem to have a beef shortage in the U.S. … and prices have skyrocketed … so it will be interesting to see the effect … or to what degree it happens. After all … Australia produces more beef that it consumes … so this might not matter a great deal … although the beef from the U.S. is reported to have more fat. Just like its people. By the way, hold the complaints. That was meant as humor. One of the items included below mentions the housing market … and hopes for the future … but seems to imply quite a shift in demand due to smaller (in number) families and an aging population. Downsizing has started to take hold … with the number of needed bedrooms fewer … and rentals appear to be gaining more appeal. Will this ever shift back … and have us see bigger family units? That is not likely … as the cost … not only for a home, but for daycare … adds a great deal of strain on those wanting a large number of little tikes running around. When I was a kid, having three and maybe four kids in a family seemed like the norm. Now, anything over two is noticeable. I will not talk about the weather today. There is an “extreme heat warning” that was just posted, announcing we are in a “heat dome.” And it’s not even August. Ouch. On a final note, there is hope for those who think dentures or implants might one day be unnecessary. The last article below claims great success in regrowing teeth … Realizing my dentist might lose some business over this … I won’t share the news. He was already feeling down in the mouth.
